10/10. Bowie's first 10 for me, this one is definitely my favorite of Bowie's early-70s rock-y albums. Evolved from the initial idea of a 1984 rock opera, you can still see those inspirations in the final album (notably in 1984 and Big Brother). Every song on here is just amazing. The opener, Diamond Dogs, is catchy and upbeat. I like to call the next part of the album the Sweet Thing Suite (Sweet Things, Candidate, and Sweet Things (Reprise)). The Sweet Thing Suite is lyrically rich and thematically dense (maybe I'll write a longer analysis of this sometime). Side 2, however, is where the album really truly shines. Every song between Rebel Rebel and 1984 has been my favorite Bowie song at some point in time. They are all pretty much perfect musically, and each has strong lyrics. The first perfect Bowie album.
