Who doesn't love Phillip Glass? I've been listening to him for a while (Glassworks is amazing). If you're unfamiliar, you might recognize him from the soundtracks of Candyman and The Truman Show, both of which are incredible. I can't believe it was only a few weeks ago that I discovered his Symphonies. Turns out he adapted David Bowie's entire Berlin Trilogy for orchestra, but his Low adaptation is my favorite. Glass doesn't just take Bowie's melodies and notate them for violin. He takes the album's musical ideas and interprets them as his own, weaving them together to create a wholly new piece of music. It is incredibly interesting to see how one great musician interprets another great musician's music. If you are a Phillip Glass, a Bowie fan, or just looking for something to study to, you'll surely enjoy this one.
